Let’s talk about something that happens to more of us than we’d probably like to admit: forgetting the laundry.
You come to Paradise Laundry, get your clothes started, maybe grab a snack, check your phone, run a quick errand, or simply get caught up in the rest of your day. And before you know it, the laundry you meant to pick up is completely out of your mind.
We know because we see it happen.
Our stores collect hundreds of pounds of forgotten laundry. We hold onto those items for 2–4 weeks, giving their owners time to remember that somewhere out there, a bag of clean clothes is waiting for them, and honestly, we get it. Laundry is usually one of those things you do while thinking about everything else you need to get done.
So instead of giving you another generic list of laundry rules, we thought we’d ask the people who know the struggle best: What helps you remember your laundry?
The laundry timer trick
One of the simplest solutions is also one of the easiest to forget: set a timer.
As soon as you start your washer or dryer, set a reminder on your phone for approximately when the cycle should be finished. You can even name the alarm something obvious, like “GO GET YOUR LAUNDRY!”. That way, you don’t have to rely on remembering the laundry while you’re busy doing everything else.
If you’re washing multiple loads, set another reminder when you move your clothes from the washer to the dryer. It creates a little chain of reminders that keeps the laundry from slipping out of your mind.
Don’t leave without a plan
Sometimes the problem is leaving the laundromat without thinking about when you’re coming back. So before you walk out, ask yourself, “When am I coming back for this?”
If you know you’ll be back in 45 minutes, set a reminder on your phone. If you’re heading somewhere afterward, set a reminder for the time you’ll need to leave that place and return to Paradise.
It takes a few seconds, but that little step can save you from discovering three days later that your favorite clothes are still waiting for you.
Make laundry part of something you already do
Another way to make remembering easier is to connect laundry pickup with something that’s already part of your routine.
Going to the grocery store? Pick up your laundry on the way back. Taking the kids to an activity? Make laundry pickup part of the trip. Meeting a friend nearby? Plan to grab your clothes first.
The more laundry becomes part of an existing routine, the less you have to rely on memory alone.
One last reminder from Paradise
When you come in to do your laundry, don’t just remember to bring the dirty clothes.
Remember to take the clean ones home, too.
